1930s Large Sage + Violet Portrait of a Woman in Gilt Frame- 29 x 37”

Magnificent, large scale, American 1930s portrait of a young woman in the most beautiful gilded frame with deco etchings. Scene depicts an elegant and lovely young woman sitting in a semi ornate upholstered chair, in front of a sage curtain. She is shown in a wonderful 1930s lilac and blue floral gown which drapes delicately over her shoulders. To me, this piece really whispers the delicacy and beauty of femininity. The pastel color palette is just so gentle and matches modest tenderness in her eyes. Visually, every component is working harmoniously and it looks even better while on display. 

It is signed in the lower right corner and reads, “CBK May”. Medium is oil paint on canvas over a wooden stretcher. Frame is  wooden. Condition is perfect and there are no flaws to note.

History: what I know is that I purchased this painting from a woman who knew the daughter of the woman portrayed in this portrait. They were neighbors growing up. They were all from Berkeley, California.
